Archery Bow Holders: Convenient Reloading during Archery Competitions

Importance Archery Bow Holder

Archery bow holders are also known in the craft as quivers. These may be made from different materials and may come in several forms although their main purpose is to help the archer carry reserve bows conveniently, allowing him to stay in a competition without running out of arrows. There are several types of quivers, each suited for a particular situation.

Different Types of Archery Bow Holders

Some of the more common quivers are the following:

  1. Bow quiver. This is the most common archery bow holder. Here, the holder is attached to the bow, and may hold two, three, or more arrows at a time. This type of quiver is lightweight and is very practical to use in an actual hunting trip. Moreover, whenever you have a backpack strapped to your back and other materials strapped to your body, this may prevent using other type of quivers that require being strapped to your body. Hence a bow quiver is more practical. When you are hunting in a tree stand position, it is more convenient to use bow strings as this allows you to launch arrows faster.
  2. Back archery bow holders or back quiver, as it is more popularly known, is employed mostly in instances that require a lot of arrows like in a target practice or 3-D competitions. Getting arrows from a back quiver is a lot easier than from a bow quiver. Moreover, compared to a bow quiver, a back quiver allows you to carry more arrows. However, there are some disadvantages resulting from using back quivers. Some of these drawbacks is that the arrows may get entangled with leaves and branches of trees. Another disadvantage is that the arrows may rattle around in the holder and may cause the target game (when in actual hunting trips) to be warned of your presence and may run away. Another drawback is the action required when retrieving arrows from a back quiver that calls you to arch your arms to your back. When drawing arrows, the tip may get entangled with the container and may cause damage to the arrow's tip.
  3. Hip archery bow holders or hip quivers are the practical choice for those who feel back quivers to be cumbersome and those who hate the added weight on the bow by the bow quiver. Hip bow quivers are fitted with numerous slot for holding an arrow. Hip bow quivers may carry as many arrows as possible as the archer may see fit. Moreover, since the arrows are stacked in the hip area and is easily reached, reloading time is fast. However, hip archery bow holders are designed to carry only short arrows.
  4. Pocket archery bow holder isn't really considered a true bow holder. It only serves as a container for short bows that are then contained in the hip pocket of your pants.
  5. Ground archery bow holders are the most commonly used in official tournaments such as the Olympics. These quivers stick in the ground and may contain racks for holding the bow upright when not in use. Moreover, ground quivers can carry long arrows.
