Clout Archery
Some of those names are familiar. One of the least known types is Clout Archery. Clout archery, some would say,
is a mixture of target archery and flight archery. Target archery is the most well known type, the objective of
which is to shoot at a circular target with corresponding points for the area hit. Flight archery is simply using
the bow to release the arrow in a trajectory that would result to the farthest distance. Now, when these two are
combined, you will have the basic aim of Clout Archery.
The Aim
The aim in clout archery is to hit a target on the ground marked by a flag from certain distances. The closer
the arrow lands to the flag, the higher the points earned. The flag, thus, is the center aim around which radii are
projected. Points vary with the distance the arrow lands from the marker flag. If the archer hits the flag pole,
the highest points are awarded. Clout archery employs zoning. This means that the points depend on where the arrow
hits the ground. But an arrow lying on the ground is not given any point. An arrow should be embedded on the flag
pole or on the ground within the projected radii for the archer to have any score.
Distances
The distances vary for the type of archer. For example, in the men's round, the shooting distance is at 180
yards. In the women's round, the distance to be aimed for is 140 yards. Archers are also categorized according to
age.
Men's Division:
Under 18: 140 yards
Under 16: 120 yards
Under 14: 100 yards
Under 12: 80 yards
Women's Division:
Under 18: 120 yards
Under 16: 100 yards
Under 13: 80 yards
Scoring
The scoring in clout archery is pretty much similar to the scoring system employed in target archery. But the
distances vary. For a distance of 18 inches radius from the flag pole, the corresponding score given is 5 points.
From 18 inches (1.5 feet) to 3 feet radius, 4 points is given. From 3 feet to 6 feet, 3 points is given. From 6
feet to 9 feet, 2 points is awarded. From 9 feet to 12 feet, 1 point is awarded. If the arrow misses the 12 foot
radius, no points are given.
Clout archery presents the challenge of precision of target archery and the need for technique and strength of
flight archery. So if you want a more stimulating form of archery, clout archery is the one for you.
